The mail was taken to the Black horse Tavern in Canonsbug PA to be examined.
The packet from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, when examined at the tavern, contained five letters which extremely upset Colonel John Canon, Colonel James Marshall, Benjamin Parkinson, Alexander Fulton and David Bradford and Thomas Speer. These letters were from:
2. General Gibson to Governor Mifflin
3. James Bryson to Governor Mifflin
4. Edward Day to Alexander Hamilton
5. Major Thomas Butler (Commandant at Fort Pitt) to the Secretary of War
It was these five individuals who were later asked (told) to leave the city of Pittsburgh
